Biography

Michèle Schaal is a professor of literature and gender studies at Iowa State University. Her research focuses on Virginie Despentes, feminisms and contemporary French women of letters, with particular attention to manifestos and essays. She has published and co-edited numerous books on these fields, making her the most cited academic on Despentes. Dr. Schaal is currently working on the book The Art of Genre- and Genderbending: Virginie Despentes's Authorial Politics, to be published by Peter Lang in 2023.
